Project Description
The Twist Chair is a design concept by Bill Pedersen, founder of KPF Architecture. The chairs concept is to see if a form can be created out of wood that gives the appearance of one piece that is twisted. Our team focused not on the production readiness of the chair but rather the exploration of material strength versus design.
Although not currently a production product the concept was successful. By studying how to arrange the grains of pieces of American walnut we were able to create a chair that is strong, flexible, and upholds design intent.
Our craftsman created this one-off piece by using a combination of CNC and hand work. Once created the walnut pieces were then joined to machined brass for a perfectly smooth transition from wood to metal. The result is a museum quality piece of finely crafted furniture.
